Jim Carter Returns To The Tricycle To Host IN CONVERSATION WITH 2018 Season

After an incredibly popular season of conversations in 2017, Jim Carter returns to the Tricycle in 2018, speaking with leading industry actors and directors. All proceeds from this series will support the Tricycle Theatre's auditorium renovation project.

This season will feature Carter in conversation with Kenneth Branagh and Derek Jacobi on 19 February; and with Emma Thompson and Imelda Staunton on 25 February.

Jim Carter said today, 'It's a mark of the respect and affection that the Tricycle Theatre commands that all the actors on my wish list immediately agreed to support this fundraising project. I think we're in for two wonderful evenings full of fun and insight and it's great to be able to give the audience the opportunity to question their favourite actors in person.'

Artistic Director of the Tricycle Theatre, Indhu Rubasingham commented, 'I am deeply grateful to Jim and his wonderful, truly inspiring guests who are role models to us all, coming to the Tricycle. This series of conversations will not only be an extraordinary experience, but they will also help us fundraise for the capital project, which will soon see a brand new auditorium.'

Kenneth Branagh: Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Sir Kenneth Branagh is one of the highest profile actors and directors in contemporary British stage and screen.

Praised for his film adaptations of William Shakespeare's plays, his directorial debut was Henry V. More recently he has directed Murder on the Orient Express and Cinderella and performed in Dunkirk and My Week with Marilyn.

With a stage career in acting and directing spanning from 1982, he recently presented a season of seven shows at London's Garrick Theatre, including Red Velvet, as part of the inaugural season of the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company.

In 2012 he received a knighthood, in 2015 he became the President of Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and in 2017 he received the Special Olivier Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to British theatre.

Derek Jacobi: Sir Derek Jacobi is a multi-award-winning actor. Born in Essex, England, he has led prolific acting career over the five past decades and is considered as one of Britain's most distinguished performers.

His achievements range from becoming one of the founding members of the National Theatre under Laurence Olivier, to winning two Olivier Awards for his performance in Cyrano de Bergerac and Twelfth Night.

He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1985, made a member of the Danish Order of the Dannebrog in 1989 and knighted in 1994 for his services to the theatre.

As close collaborators, he has performed in five films directed by Kenneth Branagh: Henry V (1989), Dead Again (1991), Hamlet (1996), Cinderella (2015) and Murder on the Orient Express (2017).

Emma Thompson: Emma Thompson has won great acclaim for her work as an actor and a screenwriter.

She first came to prominence in the 1980s through her TV work, including collaborations with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie and her BAFTA Award winning appearances in BBC TV series Tutti Frutti and Fortunes of War.

Her multi-award-winning work on screen includes acting credits in Howards End, for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress, The Remains of the Day, In the Name of the Father, Love Actually and Saving Mr. Banks to name a few. She wrote the screenplay for, and acted in, Nanny McPhee, and Sense and Sensibility, for which she won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and a nomination for Best Actress.

Imelda Staunton: Imelda Staunton is one of the most highly respected actresses internationally, with a career in stage, film and television.

Her work on stage includes leading roles in Sweeney Todd, Gypsy, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Follies, receiving four Olivier Awards and numerous nominations.

Her appearances in film range from the name part in Mike Leigh's Vera Drake, for which she won a BAFTA Award and was nominated for an Academy Award, to Dolores Jane Umbridge in the Harry Potter series and Mrs. Blatherwick in Nanny McPhee.

She was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2016 and has been married to Jim Carter since 1983.

All proceeds from these fundraising events will support the Tricycle's auditorium renovation project. There will be further opportunities to support the Tricycle during the event itself.
