Casting has been announced for the second production of Jermyn Street Theatre's autumn ESCAPE Season.

Alice Hamilton directs the world premiere of Judith Burnley's Anything That Flies, starring Clive Merrison and Issy van Randwyck.

The Berlin Wall has fallen. German reunification has begun. Otto Huberman - a Jewish inventor and musician - has lived in Belsize Park almost all his life, but his past contains more secrets than he likes to admit. One day, his peaceful life is turned upside down by the arrival of a German visitor. Judith Burnley's new play explores what it means to be to be a citizen of nowhere.

Judith Burnley has written best-selling novels including The Wife, Unrepentant Woman, The Woman Herself. This is her first work for the theatre.

Alice Hamilton is co-Artistic Director of Up in Arms Theatre. She is best known for her collaborations with Barney Norris, all of whose plays to date - including Eventide, Visitors, and While We're Here - she has premiered. Before Anything That Flies she is directing David Storey's The March on Russia at the Orange Tree Theatre. Set design is by Emily Adamson and Neil Irish, lighting by Elliot Griggs, and sound by Max Pappenheim.

Clive Merrison played the Headmaster in Alan Bennett's The History Boys (National Theatre and on film). In a distinguished career beginning in Laurence Olivier's National Theatre Company, he has played numerous leading roles, but is perhaps best known for his long-running portrayal of Sherlock Holmes on BBC Radio 4. Film credits include Heavenly Creatures and The English Patient. Triple Olivier Award nominee.

Issy van Randwyck was a member of Fascinating Aida, and has played leading roles at the National Theatre and for the BBC. Television includes Downton Abbey, Spooks, Christopher and his Kind.

Anything That Flies is preceded in the ESCAPE Season by the world premiere of Howard Brenton's The Blinding Light, about the life of August Strindberg. The Blinding Light stars Jasper Britton, Gala Gordon, Susannah Harker and Laura Morgan, and is directed by Tom Littler (runs 6 September - 14 October). Later in the season, the world premiere of Howard Brenton's new version of Strindberg's Miss Julie, also directed by Littler, transfers after a run at Theatre by the Lake, Keswick (runs 14 November - 2 December). The season concludes with the Peepolykus adaptation of The Hound of the Baskervilles, directed by Lotte Wakeham in a co-production with English Theatre Frankfurt (runs 6 - 20 December).
