Jamie Beamish and Owen McDonnell Set for Tricycle Theatre's STONES IN HIS POCKETS

Jamie Beamish and Owen McDonnell between them play fifteen different roles in the updated production of the multi award-winning play Stones in his Pockets, directed by Indhu Rubasingham and written by Marie Jones.

Running at the Tricycle Theatre from 15 December, with press night on 20 December, the production moves to the Grand Opera House in Belfast from 23 to 28 January, before returning to the Tricycle for a final week from 30 January to 4 February 2012.

Jamie Beamish plays the roles of Charlie Conlon, Simon, Caroline Giovanni, Fin, Jock Campbell, Clem Curtis, Brother Gerard, Pat Harkin with Owen McDonnell playing the roles of Jake Quinn, Aisling, Mickey Riordan, John, Sean Harkin, Dave and the Press!

County Kerry, Ireland. A rural community is turned upside down by the arrival of an American film crew on location to capture ‘real’ Ireland for their latest Hollywood blockbuster. When locals Charlie Conlon and Jake Quinn are employed as extras for the film, they, like the rest of the village, struggle to present the Americans’ romanticised Ireland, a stark contrast to the reality of daily life.

Jamie Beamish’s stage credits include The Merchant of Venice and Macbeth for the RSC, England People Very Nice and A Slight Ache for The National Theatre, Much Ado About Nothing for the Theatre Royal, Bath and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Two Gentleman of Verona, The Wind in the Willows and High Society all for the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park. Film credits include Anna Karenina, The Eagle, Robin Hood and Atonement.

Owen McDonnell was last at the Tricycle Theatre in Greta Garbo Came to Donegal directed by Nicolas Kent. His other stage credits include Hitchcock Blonde for the Royal Court, Les Liaisons Dangereuses for Liverpool Playhouse, Death of a Salesman for Birmingham Rep, Berlin Hannover Express for Hampstead Theatre and numerous shows at The National Theatre of Ireland including A Doll’s House, The Plough and the Stars and Barbaric Comedies. McDonnell is most recognised on screen as Jack in ITV’s series Single Handed. Other TV credits include Wild Decembers, Saving the Titanic, Spooks and Mount Pleasant.

Marie Jones is an award-winning Irish writer and has written extensively for stage and television. Her play Stones in His Pockets was an international success and won numerous awards all over the world. Both Women on the Verge of HRT and A Night in November were revived in London and Belfast in 2008 and HRT toured the UK in 2009. Most recently, Marie co-wrote the book for the smash hit musical, Dancing Shoes, which sold out the Belfast Opera House for its initial eight week run in summer 2010. Marie has received the John Hewitt Award for outstanding contribution to culture, tradition and the arts in Northern Ireland.
