The Iron Duke pub and hotel on Waterloo Street, Hove, will be relaunching at the end of September with a brand new theatre and a Thai restaurant.

The theatre will seat around 40-50 people, and hold regular performances of plays, comedy, cabaret, and music. Upcoming shows include stand-up from David Whitney (Fonejacker), 12 Step Comedy with compere Ben Shannon (Laughing Horse New Act of The Year 2012 Finalist), and Canadian comedian Mae Martin, who recently won the award for Best International Act at Brighton Festival and Fringe 2012, as well as theatre from local company The Knapper Experience, and appearances from local musicians. A full programme of events starting in October will be announced nearer the time, and interested parties will be able to collect a listings guide from the Iron Duke, and at various places around town.

The general manager of the new theatre, Mill Goble, is a local producer and promoter, who has been producing shows on the Brighton Fringe for a number of years, and has recently returned from a month at Edinburgh Fringe, where she was managing 8 shows. Mill aims to programme 2-3 performances per week, as well as opening the space up as a rehearsal room and a venue for small classes, such as performing Shakespeare and improvisation. Anyone interested in using the space in any capacity should contact Mill directly at mill@atomicforce.co.uk

There is currently a competition being run on the Iron Duke’s Facebook page for the public to suggest a name for the new theatre. The prize is a Thai meal for two, including wine, from the pub’s new restaurant. The closing date is 21st September.

A full menu for the new restaurant, and the most up-to-date listings for the theatre, are available on www.irondukebrighton.co.uk
