The winner of the 10th European Opera Directing Prize (EOP) will direct Puccini's Manon Lescaut at Investec Opera Holland Park in 2019. Launched in 2000, the EOP has been hosted by opera houses across Europe but 2019 will be its first time in the UK.

The EOP is run jointly by German-based philanthropists Camerata Nuova and Opera Europa, the professional body representing 176 opera companies in 42 countries. It is a biennial contest offering talented young opera directors the chance to present their ideas to a wider audience by partnering with a prestigious opera house.

Applicants are required to register by October 2017, with concepts for Manon Lescaut due by December 2017. The finals will take place at Opera Europa's 2018 spring conference in Zurich, where the four or five finalists will present their concepts to a panel of judges including OHP's Director of Opera James Clutton. The winner will be announced at the conference, and will then have a year to develop his or her concept, in time for the run of Manon Lescaut at OHP in June 2019.

Manon Lescaut is one of four brand new productions programmed for OHP's recently announced 2019 season.
