An ambitious and talented group of theatre makers, who explore narrative and audience in intriguing ways. John McGrath, Artistic Director, Manchester International Festival

Following their multi-award winning theatre-game about class, Standard: Elite ('Best Newcomer', Brighton Fringe; 'Best New Writing', Greater Manchester Fringe), Mancunian company Hidden Track are set to bring London audiences their next piece of tongue-in-cheek and humorous yet highly topical and politically charged show.
Drawing the Line will see its premiere on 9 May as part of the Albany's REBELS season - the headline commission in the programme. Written by Hidden Track's Artistic Director Elliot Hughes and directed by Associate Director Anoushka Bonwick, Drawing the Line is a theatre experience that combines storytelling, gaming and group decision-making. For every performance, 'the line' divides the audience into two rival nations. Each side will then determine how their nation grows. Strongly influenced by current political developments, the show will inspire the creation, destruction and rebuilding of unique communities every night.

Audiences can choose either to simply sit back and watch as the story unfolds, or take more active part by waving flags, building cities, singing the national anthem and even defending their nation on the battlefield. Hidden Track are pioneers in modelling audience interaction that empowers and takes care of its audiences. Their work has received plaudits for the inclusivity of its interaction and play.

Drawing the Line is an experience designed to inspire regardless of the level of interaction chosen by an audience member. says Anoushka Bonwick. We work hard to remove the 'don't pick me' elements of some interactive performance, and create a safe and fun space to have vital conversations. I think it's safe to say we need to talk about politics right now. We need to be playing, thinking and imagining together to work how we've got to where we are, and how we can come together to move forward.

Hidden Track is spearheaded by writer Elliot Hughes and sets out to make theatre that's genuinely fun, accessible, with a real political voice - aiming to bring working-class voices and audiences back to the stage. The company is currently supported by the Oxford Playhouse EVOLVE scheme 2019, and community arts hub alt-space in Morecambe's deprived West End. Drawing the Line is commissioned by, and a co-production with, The Albany.
