How To Be A Hero, which flies into Birmingham Repertory Theatre from 29 September to 3 October, tells the story of fictional costumed vigilante group, Gamma Guild. Based on the phenomenon of real life superheroes, they explore what it means to be good, how we decide who is evil, and how we deal with them.

Our fearless foursome, together with their canine sidekick Dangerwoof, gathers outside Greggs on the High Street to take on the city's dark side. And so their battles begin: with three-legged cats, drunk and disorderly party goers, underage smokers, and the Women's Institute; as they attempt to cope with growing YouTube notoriety in their quest to save the world. Is Sergeant Stokes their nemesis, or is Gamma Guild's real enemy lurking within their own ranks?

A dark comedy featuring karaoke, pepper spray, amateur judo techniques and tips on how to spot a villain, the show features footage and stories of the untold heroes of Birmingham, gathered and recorded from public workshops and interviews.

Award-winning theatre company, White Rabbit comprises Bernadette Russell and Gareth Brierley. They have created shows for National Theatre, Southbank Centre, Freud Museum, National Trust and Thames Festival. Their storytelling cabaret, Are You Sitting Comfortably? has been resident at Toynbee Studios since 2008. This year Bernadette was chosen as one of the Southbank Centre's 67 Changemakers for her project 366 Days Of Kindness. White Rabbit created a show of the same name, which played at The REP last year.

How To be A Hero is supported by Arena Theatre Wolverhampton and ARC Stockton, using public funding by Arts Council England.
