CandyKing Productions and Celtic Kiss Productions present: The Ruffian on the Stair And The Erpingham Camp by Joe Orton
The first London revival for many years of
Joe Orton's hilarious short plays, originally presented in 1967 at the Royal Court under the title ‘Crimes of Passion'; poignantly and tragically in the year that Orton was bludgeoned to death by his long term lover at their home in Islington.
Joe Orton (1933- 1967) was a formidable English playwright who in his brief but prolific career shocked, outraged, amused, created an incomparable legacy and defined British theatre with his blackly comic writing.
THE RUFFIAN ON THE STAIR was first broadcast on BBC Radio in August 1964; and THE ERPINGHAM CAMP was originally written in 1966 for television. These hilarious short farces will be presented this summer as a double-bill at the Greenwich Playhouse.
THE RUFFIAN ON THE STAIR tells the story of Mike and Joyce...and their uninvited lodger who is not all that he seems to be. Amidst revelations of incest and death this black comedy builds to a startling crescendo...
THE ERPINGHAM CAMP is a riotous depiction of life in a holiday camp, suppressed by the demonic and evil camp ruler Erpingham. But would the English really rather have a cup of tea than stage a revolution?
CandyKing Productions are currently staging an acclaimed production of
Bernard Shaw's CANDIDA at the Greenwich Playhouse.
