The hit new musical production exploring the life and work of legendary band leader Glenn Miller is set to tour the country again after its highly successful 2012 UK Tour after receiving terrific reviews from both critics and audiences and hailed a triumph.
What happened to Glenn Miller remains as much a mystery today as when the Iconic American band-leader went missing at the end of World War 2. It ranks alongside other unsolved mysteries such as who really was William Shakespeare and what really happened to Lord Lucan?
Believing the theatre paying public wanted and deserved more than annually regurgitated Juke-Box musicals and Sound & Dance Shows that masqueraded as Musicals; he set about writing an equally balanced Book of music to words where the pertinent song lyrics weaved their way through an interesting story-line.
'Bugle Boy' by English Award Winning Playwright Den Stevenson; traces the life of legendary music Icon Glenn Miller from leaving college to play in various bands including his own as he searches tirelessly for over twenty years, with the constant support and love of his wife Helen, for a unique band sound.
When he eventually succeeds in his quest; he and his family only enjoy the fruits of fame for three short years. When America joined the Second World War after the bombing of Pearl Harbor; he joins the Army, forms the subsequently famed A.E.F Band and flies to Europe to play to the Armed Forces; then goes missing in mysterious circumstances.
Den Stevenson became obsessed with making a musical about the great band leader when he became Booker for Glenn's younger brother Herb Miller and his Orchestra; honing his unique concept on English soil before presenting the show in America - firstly in Virginia and then on Broadway where it was choreographed by Duke Ellington's Granddaughter; Mercedes Ellington.
'Bugle Boy' features all of Glenn Miller's famous and instantly recognisable tunes including amongst others Little Brown Jug; Moonlight Serenade; Pennsylvania 6-5000 Chattanooga Choo Choo; Kalamazoo; American Patrol - which saw this not to be missed Show play to packed audiences and standing ovations putting everyone who saw it... In The Mood shouting fore More!
Speaking about the show, Writer Den Stevenson said: ''Glenn Miller had a dream; to find a unique Big Band sound; 'Bugle Boy' is my dream; to establish a lasting Tribute to the music of the Iconic band-leader. Glenn succeeded! Hopefully it will be... One more time; twice''
