Artistic Director Indhu Rubasingham today announces the full programme for the second annual Tricycle Takeover which sees Tricycle Theatre Young Company return to the theatre to perform an entirely new programme of work this March.
The Tricycle Takeover, programmed by Tricycle Young Company will see its members aged 11 - 25 take key roles across the season backstage, in producing and marketing. They will perform across the building for 8 days, utilising the theatre, cinema, studio spaces and front of house.
Headlining Takeover 2015 will be new a new play, specially commissioned for Tricycle Young Company and written with their thoughts and voices at its heart. The Dissidents by Shamser Sinha explores what 'home' means when your parents are gone, your heritage is overseas and London rents mean you can't afford the house you grew up in. Along with two other Tricycle Young Company productions, and a parliamentary hustings, it's one of a series of events examining young people and the political present, in the run up to May's general election.
The Tricycle will also host National Theatre Connections. Each year the National Theatre invites ten writers to create new plays for young people to perform around the UK. Six of these plays, by playwrights, including Eugene O'Hare who has acted at the Tricycle in Red Velvet and True West, will be performed by local theatre groups and young people with the chance to be chosen for the Connections Festival held at the National Theatre in July.
In addition to the range of new theatre, Takeover 2015 will feature a series of one-off performances by young artists and local groups as well as workshops covering a breadth of topics such as lighting design, improvisation and poetry.
Unless otherwise stated, tickets should be booked via the Tricycle Theatre Box Office: 020 7328 1000; www.tricycle.co.uk. All workshop and event panellists are subject to change.
