Continuing its commitment to bring neglected European playwrights to the attention of new audiences in Britain, Frogme Theatre Company presents the UK premiere of Visits by 2010 Ibsen Award winner Jon Fosse in the scrap assemblages of Theatre Delicatessen's unique space. The production is supported by Royal Norwegian Embassy in the UK. It will be directed by Lars Harald Gathe, designed by Christopher Faulds, produced by Berislav Juraic, lighting design by Chris Randall, and feature Cornelius Garrett, Ben Hale, Ami Sayers, and Nikki Squire in the cast.
A mother recently divorced. Between the mother, her daughter, her son and her new man an ambiguous and disturbing relationship forms. One day the daughter confides in her brother her secret; and we follow the consequences of that revelation and the ensuing attempt at a confrontation. The drip-dripping of their words, all that is unsaid and their silence, all skim the surface of their emotions and what is really going on. Visits is a play that shows us a great rift within families; between individuals who are hanging dangerously over emptiness, because they are unable to hang on to each other.
Visits is one of the least performed Jon Fosse's plays. Written in 2000, the play was first performed at The National Theatre in Bergen, Norway. The play was part of the successful programme of play readings by Caird Company at Soho Theatre in 2002.
Jon Fosse is one of the most provocative, celebrated, and produced contemporary playwright in Europe right now. Since 1993, Fosse has focused primarily on playwriting. He quickly received international acclaim, particularly after Claude Régy (legendary French director of Pinter's work) came out of retirement to direct his play Someone is Going to Come. His plays, including And We'll Never Be Parted, Night Songs, The Guitar Man, Dream of Autumn, Girl on the Sofa, and Death Variations, have been produced on major stages across Europe, as well as around the world.
Director Lars Harald Gathe founded the Frogme Theatre Company in 2009. He originally trained at London Film School and completed an MA in Drama Directing at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He has directed several short films, the award-winning feature Ulysses Road: Theatre credits include: Winter by Jon Fosse (Alma Tavern Theatre, Bristol), The Gaelic Teacher by Paulo Chianta.
All performances will take place at the Theatre Delicatessen (3-4 Picton Place, London W1U 1BJ) from 26th August -12 September, Tuesday - Sunday, 7.30pm. There will be a Press Night on Friday, August 27th.
