Following the tragic tale of a young girl in search of adventure and truth, Five One Productions presents A Broken Rose, a powerful and harrowing new play from the pen of Sarah Goddard (Off West End Offie Award-nominated Most Promising New Playwright).

Surrounded by the harsh confines of her reality, Maria (played by former EastEnders actress Louisa Lytton) invents her own world to live in: a world of magic and beauty, that is far preferable to her own. As the two worlds begin to blur together Maria is left struggling in the wake, unable to grasp hold of either. This beautifully unique play is brought to life by award-winning director Phil Willmott in a production that is sure to both shock and provoke.

A Broken Rose, will play a three-week season at the Cockpit Theatre from tonight 11th September - Sunday 30th September. Press night is Thursday 13th September at 7.30pm

Louisa Lytton (Maria) played series regular Ruby Allen in EastEnders, winning Sexiest Female Award at the Brirtish Soap Awards, then two years as PC Beth Green in The Bill. She competed on Strictly Come Dancing, partnered by Vincent Simone, and at just 17 she remains the youngest contestant ever to have appeared on the show to date. She was also in the films Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Ali G in Da House. Nicholas Boulton (Dr Cole) recently played Elyot in Private Lives at Salisbury Playhouse. He has had major roles at the Almeida and with the RSC and he was series regular Sean Richmond on BBC1’s Doctors. The rest of the cast are Nicola Wright (Jess), John Last (Johnny), Amy Barnes (Sun), Chris Barley (Moon).

Sarah Goddard (author) set up Five One Productions after graduating from the University of York in 2009. After two successful years at the Edinburgh Fringe, Five One debuted in London, collecting five Off West End Offie Award nominations for Three of Hearts at the Etcetera in Camden, including Best New Play and Most Promising New Playwright. A Broken Rose is her 12th play.

Director Phil Willmott has directed over 50 productions around the UK from Shakespeare and musicals to cutting edge new drama. He is Artistic Director of his own multi award-winning company The Steam Industry (incorporating the Finborough Theatre and the annual free open-air season at The Scoop at More London).

A BROKEN ROSE by Sarah Goddard is directed by Phil Willmott, featuring set/costume designer Emma Tompkins, lighting Designer Becca Sharpe, original music composed by John-Paul Bowman, casting director Danielle Tarento and produced by Five One Productions.

Cockpit Theatre is located on Gateforth Street, Marylebone, LONDON NW8 8EH. The show plays Tuesday - Sunday at 7.30pm. Tickets are £15.00 (£13.00 concs), inclusive of all booking fees. Call the box office at 0207 258 2925 or go online at www.thecockpit.org.uk.
