Drama Studio London's First Cohort Of BA Graduates Will Graduate Summer 2019 Image

This summer, Drama Studio London's first cohort of BA graduates will enter the theatre industry. DSL was founded 50 years ago with its courses designed to give aspiring actors the best grounding in skills to prepare for a professional career. With past alumni including Olivia Vinall, Emily Watson, Forest Whitaker, Enzo Cilenti and Cory English, there can be no doubt of the talent nurtured by this illustrious school. The Class of 2019 will graduate with the new Bachelor of Arts in Professional Acting course, in conjunction with De Montfort University.

The undergraduate degree students have benefitted from three years' training in a creative environment with a sole focus on acting in order to hone their craft, on a degree course that maintains the ethos of DSL's practice-based diploma courses. This supportive setting responds to the ever-changing climate and is run for the profession by the profession. This means that the faculty is a constantly moving body of experienced creatives, all active in the profession, who emphasise the importance of collaboration and inclusivity. With classical training firmly at its core, DSL never stops focussing on the latest opportunities in performance or looking with fresh eyes at the changing landscape. DSL is committed to producing well-trained, exciting and resourceful actors who can confidently and successfully enter the industry at the end of their degree.

DSL's ability to offer an undergraduate degree course has widened their remit, meaning they are now able to cater for a larger range of students. These undergraduates bring new energy and diversity to DSL, as students across the various courses train together to become the best actors around. The new combination of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and diplomas makes Drama Studio London more dynamic than ever. The undergraduates' first full New Writing productions will be shown in June in collaboration with Soho Theatre.

Kit Thacker, Managing Director of DSL, comments: Most of our undergraduate students arrived as raw teenagers and we have had the privilege of watching them grow over three years into skilled practitioners. They brought talent and passion and we have added technique, professionalism and a joy in performance. Projects are often spread across students from different courses, meaning there is a magical cross-pollination and every cohort benefits from the experience and energy of the others. We have every faith in this cohort knowing how ready they are for whatever comes their way and that they will jump in and create wonderful work.
