Doreen Tipton has been crowned Best Pantomime Newcomer at the Great British Pantomime Awards for her role as the Lazy Empress Of China in Wolverhampton Grand Theatre's 2016/17 pantomime, Aladdin.

The Great British Pantomime Awards was launched this year to celebrate and recognise outstanding achievements across the country for the 2016/17 pantomime season. Held at London's Theatre Café on Shaftesbury Avenue in the West End, Doreen Tipton and Grand Theatre Chief Executive Adrian Jackson accepted the award from host Christopher Biggins, who himself appeared in a production of Aladdin at the Grand Theatre in 2010/11.

On her award, Doreen Tipton said; "I was thrilled to win the award in London. I've told them, though, that if they want me to come next year and win Best Newcomer again, they should hold it at Tipton Social Club."

Doreen will be returning to the Grand Theatre with her own show, DOREEN: RISE OF THE YAM YAM on Sunday 22 October, her solo show last year sold out months in advance. Doreen actress Gill Jordan will be appearing in the Grand Theatre's GRAND MUSIC HALL on Wednesday 14 June, treating audiences to her Broadway show voice.

Doreen will be making a return appearance in this year's Grand Theatre pantomime, JACK AND THE BEANSTALK alongside Gareth Gates as Jack, Lisa Riley as the Fairy, Ian Adams as Dame Trott and Adam C Booth as Simple Simon.

JACK AND THE BEANSTALK opens at the Grand Theatre on Saturday 9 December 2017 and runs until Sunday 14 January 2018. Tickets are already on sale and can be booked in person, by phone on 01902 42 92 12 or online at grandtheatre.co.uk.
