Following a sell-out success as part of International Dance Festival Birmingham 2010 and after five years touring the globe, the highly acclaimed Sutra returns to the city for two performances only; tonight 7 & Wednesday 8 May at 7:30 p.m. at Birmingham Hippodrome.

Tickets are £10-£25 with group and family discounts available. Call 0844 338 5000 to book or just select seats online at www.birminghamhippodrome.com (5% booking fee applies, calls cost from 5p per minute)

Sutra is a unique dance spectacle combining the skill and disciplines of the Shaolin monks with the visions of a contemporary choreographer and a multi-award-winning sculptor. Throughout the production the cast demonstrate gravity defying acrobatic stunts whilst an ever-changing set designed by Anthony Gormley, who sculpted the famous Iron Man in Birmingham City Centre, creating a transformative visual landscape. Sutra is accompanied by a live, specially commissioned score for five musicians, including piano, percussion and strings by Polish composer Szymon Brzóska.

One of Europe's most exciting choreographers, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui has made more than 20 choreographic pieces including zero degrees (2005) with Akram Khan who choreographed a piece in the 2013 Olympic Opening Ceremony, Olivier Award-winning Babel (2010) and Joe Wright's recent film Anna Karenina (2012).

The monks performing in Sutra are from the original Shaolin Temple, situated near Dengfeng City in the Henan Province of China and established in AD 495 by monks originating from India. In 1983, the State Council defined the Shaolin Temple as the key national Buddhist Temple.
