Daintees' Frontman Returns To Stage At Warrington's Pyramid ImageDaintees' frontman Martin Stephenson is heading to the North West this summer to entertain crowds with hits from a career spanning four decades.

The singer-songwriter will be stealing the spotlight at Warrington's Pyramid with an extraordinary performance on Friday 31 August.

Starting out as a humble busker, the Durham-born musician began his love affair with music as a teenager, giving in to his natural instinct to perform.

He said: "I used to see a sunny morning when I was 18 and thought 'I'm just going to go on the street and play, nobody knows who I am anyway.' The doo-wop singers used to do that, stand on street corners. That's how I started off."

From there, Stephenson went on to become frontman of his band, the Daintees, who brought out their first single Roll on Summertime in 1984, propelling the band to newfound success.

With hit singles such as Boat to Bolivia, Candle in the Middle, and Rain, the Daintees enjoyed roaring success with top 40 albums including Gladsome, Humour & Blue in 1988 and Salutation Road in 1990.

In 1992, Stephenson called time on the original Daintees, following their less successful album The Boy's Heart, and set about on his solo career.

Aside from writing and gigging, Stephenson is also hugely passionate about championing new talent, and is dedicated to his own label Barbaraville, which he describes as "a raft to try and help people".

Teaming up again with his former bandmates, Stephenson and the Daintees have sold out major venues such as The Sage, The Lowry, and The 100 Club in recent years.

Not one for resting on his laurels, Stephenson is now set to return to the stage this August with a whirlwind show of hits at Warrington's very own Pyramid.
