Circolombia took the Roundhouse by storm back in 2011 with the explosive sell-out hit URBAN. Now they're back by popular demand with the UK premiere of a much anticipated new production.
Acelere is inspired by Colombia's diverse communities and features 14 of the most talented performers from across Colombia. Mixing spectacular circus with dance and an original soundtrack, it is set to fill the Roundhouse with the same infectious energy that left such a huge impression on audiences and critics back in 2011.
All of the artists trained at the National School of Circo Para Todos ("Circus For All") that supports the most vulnerable, at risk young people in Colombia through professional circus training. The young company includes some of the most revered circus performers in the world. It's an incredible journey, and an even more incredible company. Two of the company's performers, Duo Kiebre, were awarded silver for their extraordinary aerial strap act at the prestigious Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain in January, which celebrates the very best of international contemporary circus.
Leila Jones, the Roundhouse's Circus producer: 'Circolombia coming back to the Roundhouse after four years has got the building buzzing! The company has been hugely influential to us both in terms of its incredible high energy shows but also in the ground breaking and deeply effective way it engages with hard to reach young people - helping them to become artists at the very top of their game. We conceived our very own Street Circus Programme based on its model and ethos, and will have 100s of young breakers, acrobats and aerialists who can't wait to meet and train with them. Bring on April."
Circolombia is led by its founder, Artistic Director and Creative Producer Felicity Simpson. This new production will be directed by Renato Rocha who also directed The Dark Side Of Love in 2012, a Roundhouse collaboration with LIFT (London International Festival of Theatre) in association with the RSC. Most recently, Rocha directed Turfed, an exploration of youth homelessness for LIFT 2014, which garnered rave reviews. Music will be composed by Ryan Wilmott, who provided the score for Circolombia's URBAN.
