Celebrate St George's Day in style in the beautiful surroundings of St George's Hall as they welcome back their sensational orchestra in residence L'Orchestra dell'Arte who return on Sunday 23rd April.

In what promises to be yet another exquisite concert, L'Orchestra dell'Arte and conductor Edward Peak are now in their fourth season as orchestra-in-residence at the stunning and iconic Liverpool venue.

Taking place in the beautiful Concert Room, this new show Scandinavian Resonances features the violin soloist Ofer Falk, presenting a wonderful collection of works from Scandinavian composers.

Ofer was born in Israel and studied with the legendary pedagogue Ilona Feher in Tel-Aviv, then later with Professor Dora Schwarzberg in Vienna and is best known as the recent leader of the Allegri Quartet.

He made his debut as soloist with the English Chamber Orchestra in February 2003 and has performed as soloist with most of the leading Israeli Orchestras and at the Bolshoi and Mali Theatres in Moscow. He frequently appears as guest leader of the English Chamber Orchestra and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

His performances have been broadcast on radio and television including BBC Radio 3, German Radio-Berlin, Israeli Radio and Television, Russian State Radio and Television, and Canadian Radio. Ofer was founder member and leader of the Schidlof Quartet and the Falk Quartet, recording three CDs.

He is a professor of violin and chamber music at Trinity College of Music and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Performances during the concert will include that of Danish composer Peter Erasmus Lange-M?ller as well as from composers from Sweden, Norway and Finland including Sibelius' evocative tone poem Finlandia and his Suite, Karelia. Followed by Grieg's contribution, the well- known Peer Gynt Suite. There may also be a couple of extra surprises from Estonia and Sweden!

St Georges Hall manager Alan Smith says "It is with great pleasure that we welcome back L'Orchestra dell'Arte. We continue our fantastic relationship with the orchestra through this unique concert and cannot wait to welcome our audience into the hall for this beautiful event."

This unique neo-classical building is the centre of Liverpool's traditional cultural forum whose foundation stone was laid in 1838. It was built as a result of separate competitions to create a fitting space for the aspirational city to hold its music festivals and other assemblies and contains the vastly ornate Great Hall with its vaulted ceiling, Minton tiled floor, replete with maritime and civic symbolism and is also home to a massive pipe organ. The Small Concert Room at the Northern elevation of the Hall has been described as the 'Albert Hall in miniature' and is circular in design with a proscenium arch stage and is flanked by caryatids, female sculptural figures which are designed to give the impression of supporting the fine lace work of the iron balconies. Unusually, the Hall also houses the Crown and Civil Court which were working courts until the 1980's when the Court Service moved to new premises in Derby Square. The ground floor and basement levels also house holding cells for prisoners and the condemned cell. St George's Hall can lay claim to one of the oldest ventilation and air conditioning systems in the world, the workings of which can be seen in the lower basement level and throughout the Hall.

L'Orchestra dell'Arte is a group of highly talented musicians performing as a salon or symphony orchestra, be it for intimate musical evenings or full-scale concert performances. Founded in 2010, the Orchestra has played concerts across the Northwest, including in Heswall, Prescott, Birkenhead and Southport, offering a very wide range of popular classical, romantic and themed repertoire. Programmes have included the work of a great many composers - from Mozart and Beethoven to Rimsky-Korsakov and Saint-Saens. Viennese evenings and concerts of light music including music from film, radio and television have added to the musical diversity and have always proved very popular. In 2013 the Orchestra was nominated Orchestra in Residence at St George's Hall Liverpool with a season of concerts in 2013-14 each featuring the Henry Willis organ. One of the Orchestra's key features is the flexibility its players employ to create smaller ensembles of every shape and size - from trios and quartets to octets and nonets - encompassing many different instrumental combinations and musical styles. This approach is well illustrated in the Sunday Serenade concerts and recitals performed in more intimate and informal surroundings. While the Orchestra plans and performs its own concert series, it is always happy to consider suggestions and proposals, not only for full-scale concerts but also for chamber music performances and recitals, perhaps for particular events such weddings and garden parties. So, whether your musical taste is for opera or the musicals we will always be pleased to hear from you. Indeed, the Orchestra is also able to consider delivering educational activities such as illustrated lectures and talks for specific audiences and may be able to arrange one-to-one instrumental lessons from beginner to college entry level. It is never too late to learn about music and to enjoy playing, particularly in the company of like-minded people.
