The Citizens Theatre embraces a pop-punk spirit for its wild and anarchic festive production, Rapunzel, with the casting of Cat Myers, drummer with Glasgow grunge duo Honeyblood. A fun and alternative festive treat for the whole family aged 6 and upwards, Rapunzel runs from Saturday 28 November 2015 to Sunday 3 January 2016.

The Citizens Theatre is inviting audiences looking for something a little bit different this Christmas to let down their hair at Rapunzel, their funny madcap festive show with a darkly mischievous side. In an update to the classic fairytale, writer Annie Siddons has created a Rapunzel who is a fearless heroine ever ready to take on her own daring adventure.

Taking on the role of Rapunzel is Jessica Hardwick who was most recently seen on the Citizens stage in Lanark: A Life in Three Acts, a major success at this year's Edinburgh Festival winning glowing reviews and a Herald Angel Award. Hardwick began her career as a Citizens Theatre Actor Intern starring in Miss Julie and Crime and Punishment. Her performance in Crime and Punishment in 2013 earned her a CATS Billy Award for 'Best Newcomer'.

The cast is completed by Peter Collins, Keith Macpherson, Hannah McPake, Wendy Seager and this year's Citizens Theatre Actor Interns Camrie Palmer and Ewan Somers, who both marked their professional debuts in Lanark: A Life in Three Acts earlier this year. The cast will perform original music and songs live on stage under the direction of composer Michael John McCarthy who recently created music for Citizens productions including Into That Darkness, Fever Dream: Southside and Sports Day.

Cat Myers is best known as a member of the two-piece band Honeyblood, who have been nominated for Scottish Album of the Year Award for their self-titled debut album. The band will be headlining Edinburgh's Hogmanay Concert in the Gardens along with Biffy Clyro and are just fresh from supporting the Foo Fighters at Murrayfield Stadium in front of an audience of 60,000. Myers has also performed with Tom Jones, Average White Band and Belle and Sebastian. This is Myres' second performance on the Citizens stage having appeared in Sports Day in 2014.

Rapunzel is directed by Lu Kemp who works principally in writing, devised theatre and dance. Her previous work for young people includes the National Theatre of Scotland's The Day I Swapped My Dad For Two Goldfish, Arabian Nights at the Tricycle Theatre and Catherine Wheel's One Thousand Paper Cranes. Kemp is an Associate Artist of theatre company Inspector Sands, and directed the company's 2009 Edinburgh International Festival Fringe Award-winning play If That's All There Is which also had a New York run as part of Brits off Broadway. Completing the creative team are designer Rachael Canning and lighting designer Lizzie Powell, who created the stunning designs of the Citizens Theatre's 2014 production of A Christmas Carol.

Family tickets for Rapunzel start from £33 for a family of three to £71 for a family of five. More information about Rapunzel can be found on the Citizens Theatre's website citz.co.uk. Tickets are available from the website, or by calling 0141 429 0022.

Audiences aged 3-6 are also in for a festive treat this Christmas with Flora's Fairy Challenge. Disaster has struck at the North Pole, Santa doesn't have any magical fairy dust to fly his sleigh and Flora is the only fairy who can save the day. Full of songs to sing along with, Flora's Fairy Challenge is created by Andrew McGregor and Marianne Yeomans, the team behind last year's Christmas show for 3-6 year olds, Eric the Elf's Chaotic Christmas.

Flora's Fairy Challenge runs from 10 - 31 Dec. Tickets range from £5 for a preview ticker - £35 for a family of 5.
