Casting has been announced for Salisbury Playhouse's new production of Rodney Ackland's Before the Party.
The cast is led by Philip Bretherton, best known for television appearances including As Time Goes By alongside Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer, and Roberta Kerr, familiar from her roles in Coronation Street and Emmerdale. They are joined by Sherry Baines, Eleanor Bennett, Katherine Manners, Bathsheba Piepe and Matthew Romain.
Based on a short story by W. Somerset Maugham, Before the Party is a sizzling, satirical portrayal of the upper middle classes adjusting to post war life. Following Laura's return from Africa, widowed but with a gentleman in tow, the family prepares for the latest social gathering. Amidst the never-ending whirl of hats and dresses and below stairs skirmishes, Laura reveals a shocking secret that threatens to ruin more than one party on the climb to social success.
Before the Party is directed by Ryan McBryde (Saturday Night Fever, UK tour) and is designed by James Turner (Toast, UK tour) with lighting design by Ben Cracknell (What the Butler Saw, Curve, Leicester).
