New Welsh theatre company OtherLife have recently announced that its debut production will be Mydidae by Jack Thorne, which will run 22 May - 2 Juneat Cardiff's pub theatre The Other Room, located in Porter's and winner of The Stage's Fringe Theatre of the Year Award.
Mydidae is written by one of the UK's most exciting and outspoken writers, Jack Thorne (Skins, This Is England, Let The Right One In, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and will be directed by OtherLife co-founder Simon Reeves.
Set in a bathroom over the course of a single important day, Mydidae allows us to witness, in wry and achingly intimate detail, the challenges of keeping going when your relationship is held together not only by love, but also by despair. Simon Reeves comments:
"Mydidae is one of those thrilling plays where you can move from caustic wit to poetic tenderness in a heartbeat. And Jack Thorne somehow manages to do this - as he did in Kiri and National Treasure - to deal with these very emotional topics, whilst making it all sound so simply, unmistakably, human. Matt Raymond and Isabella Marshall will bring depth, intelligence and humour to the roles of Marian and David and the Other Room is the perfect space to get up close and personal with their private world.
As our first production, we hope that Mydidae will not only demonstrate our commitment to championing high quality work that is not being seen outside of London, but also reach and attract a wide audience including some people that don't always go to the theatre."
Mydidae will be performed by OtherLife co-founders Matthew Raymond and Isabella Marshall.
Artistic Director of The Other Room Dan Jones comments:
"We are delighted to be hosting OtherLife for their inaugural production. The formation of this company will further enrich the Cardiff theatre scene and I'm delighted that The Other Room are able to support them through their first production - and what a production. Mydidae is an astonishing story of a relationship peppered with grief and regret and is unlike anything being produced here in Cardiff. This is precisely the shade of work we should be presenting on our stage and I can't wait to see the final product."
