CKP & ROAR Group Present Kwame Asante's OPEN ARMS

The last couple of years have seen Kwame Asante have to embrace a lot of changes: becoming a Junior Doctor, moving away from London and juggling his doctoring with his stand-up. He is delighted to now be heading up to the Fringe to debut his first hour-long show: Open Arms; a collection of all his best observations and anecdotes.

Open Arms chronicles Kwame's experiences over the past two years and it all starts with him following a job offer that meant finding himself having to move to Birmingham.

Having lived in London for the whole 25 years of his life up to then, and with the growing trend of comics (and indeed young professionals in general) gravitating towards London from smaller towns and cities, Kwame did it all backwards. How does the age old stereotype of non-Londoners being friendlier hold up in Kwame's eyes?

Kwame won the 'Chortle Student Award' in 2012, then immediately went off to train as a doctor, which meant comedy had to take a back seat for a while - although he has continued to write and perform, including a half hour show at Free Fringe in 2014 as well as performing at Latitude and Udderbelly Festivals.

Now, having worked for two years as a junior doctor, Kwame is putting medicine to one side for a bit, in favour of returning to a focus on comedy.

Kwame's unique perspective on life as a recently-qualified doctor is packed with outlandish and hilarious anecdotes. He mixes these with tales of his challenges of living alone in a new city, balancing work and romance and his sharp transition from student-life to full-blown adulthood.

All of which are delivered in Kwame's distinctive style of stand-up: straight jokes, a laid-back playful silliness, unexpected turns of surrealism and a splash of audience interaction for good measure. These come together to form a truly delightful hour of personal reflections woven into upbeat comedy, which ensures this comic stands out from the crowd.
