Eastleigh Film Festival announces its 2017 programme following a triumphant week of film fun in 2016. This year's festival will run from Monday 25th to Saturday 30th September as curators screen 19 films across 12 venues to match.
Now in its fourth year, the anticipated event saw record numbers attend sold-out screenings of classic movies in 2016 and this year it is bigger than ever with more films in locations in and around Eastleigh.
Eastleigh Film Festival screens films in site-specific large-scale locations and presents intimate movie-going experiences with the return of mini-screenings in collaboration with local businesses. Curated by The Point, the festival will transform the cultural centre into a hub for film fans this September, with seven movies shown in the auditorium plus an exclusive Film Careers event.
Eastleigh Film Festival organisers at The Point have been busy working with local business owners in and around the town to confirm locations for cult films, bringing the biggest line-up to date. Currently confirmed as part of the popular mini-screenings strand of the festival is Toy Story at The Entertainer, When Harry Met Sally at Boswells, the Die Hard trilogy at three locations to match, Mallrats at the Swan Centre and Carrie at Crestwood College.
More information on ticket prices and locations can be found online. The Point will also play host to several brilliant titles, including an accessible screening of La La Land priced at just £5.
"I am thrilled to be bringing Eastleigh Film Festival back in September. It is a wonderful week of celebrating not only great films but also the Eastleigh community who get behind our ridiculous programme of laughs, tears and screams every year. I look forward to a week of mischievous, interactive movie-going magic." - Dan Hill, Eastleigh Film Festival Director.
This year's event encourages people to get involved, too. On Thursday 28th September, The Point will host a Film Careers Morning for students and film fans alike. The event, running from 9.30am to 1pm, invites participants to attend an array of inspiring workshops based around different aspects of the film industry. As part of the event, celebrated independent director Neil Mcenery-West will return to the venue to host a Directing workshop, alongside other skills-based participatory courses that offer valuable insight into filmmaking.
Comedian and frequent performer at The Point, Mark Thomas, has selected three films to launch the festival and it will be down to the audience to choose which they want to see. To cast a vote and influence the decision, visit eastleighfilmfestival.com.
