Artistic Director Madani Younis today announced the return of the Bush Theatre's third annual RADAR festival this November. Featuring stimulating talks, stirring sneak peeks and inspiring shows, RADAR shines a spotlight on the hottest new writing talent from around the world and explores the urgent questions facing theatre in this moment and beyond.
This year, RADAR will present five of the most exciting and innovative new shows from across the UK, as well as a series of late-night events, debates and show cases of works in progress. Artists will include Hetain Patel, Chris Thorpe and Brigitte Aphrodite alongside companies including Unlimited Theatre, Lip Sink, Two Destination Language and Bush alumni Associate Artists Iron Shoes.
The programme includes two world premieres: Double Fringe First winners Iron Shoes will present My Beautiful Black Dog, a new musical show by Brigitte Aphrodite; Unlimited Theatre's Am I Dead Yet? will take on death and dying, performed by Jon Spooner and Chris Thorpe. NANCY Collective will present Mush and Me - an IdeasTap Underbelly Award-winning new play by Karla Crome - while Two Destination Language's Total Theatre Award-winning Near Gone is a heartfelt story about survival and storytelling.
RADAR 2014 will also feature a programme of late night events. Team Angelica will present two nights of new work, Simon McBurney will perform the audacious White Rabbit Red Rabbit by Nassim Soleimanpour, and there will be new work from Ross Sutherland, Vinay Patel and Roy Alexander Weise. Alongside this there will be a programme of BushGreen Live events that will open up the theatre to a host of special guests - more information to be announced.
Running alongside these events will be RADAR CONNECT - a series of free practical workshops for post graduate students, led by a cohort of professionals working in the industry including Bryony Kimmings and Told by an Idiot.
At RADAR 2013, the Bush invited some of Britain's most innovative thinkers to share their ideas on the future of culture. Speakers included Lucy Ellinson, star of Grounded (Gate Theatre, Broadway and UK tour) and Occupy activist, UK hip-hop star Ty and BBCR1 Weekend Breakfast Show host Gemma Cairney. Since its inception in 2011 the festival has showcased electrifying new work from Bryony Kimmings, Caroline Horton and Inua Ellams, and has premiered shows including Kieran Hurley's Beats, Luke Barnes' Chapel Street and Michaela Coel's award-winning Chewing Gum Dreams.
Artistic Director Madani Younis said today, "I'm delighted to announce the third consecutive year of RADAR at the Bush Theatre - our festival of new writing dedicated to finding and producing the best new writing talent from around the world. RADAR is an opportunity for us to push the boundaries of new writing, to expand the way we look for work, the way we create work and the audiences it attracts.
"As part of RADAR, we open up our building to a range of artists and audiences. We showcase work from commissioned artists working within our community, we run RADAR Connect workshops for post-graduate students and our BushGreen Live programme of RADAR Lates and Debates invites audiences to debate and discuss what they see."
IdeasTap are partners of RADAR 2015, generously supporting both the design of the festival and the casting for Team Angelica . Both elements are featured as opportunities on the IdeasTap site with members also able to apply to join creative workshops hosted by the Bush team.
