After its hugely successful premiere at Edinburgh Festival Fringe last year, receiving four and five star reviews, Ross Ericson's new play The Unknown Soldier is to be published by Bloomsbury, and as a first for Brighton Fringe, Sweet Venues will host the book launch at Sweet Waterfront on Monday 30th May at 2PM - marking the start of the play's run at Sweet Dukebox for the last week of the festival.

This is Ericson's second play to be published by Bloomsbury, one of the UK's leading publishers, his first being the award-nominated Casualties. It is a story of comradeship, loyalty and betrayal following the carnage of WW1, and is a thought provoking, moving, and even humorous solo piece that looks at the conflict from a completely new perspective - through the eyes of a man who has survived the carnage but remains behind to help build the great cemeteries.

Ericson strangely admits to being inspired by Tory grandee Michael Gove to write this new piece. '" was not sure there was a need for a new play on the First World War", he admits, "but when I heard Gove going on about the reported futility and suffering being nothing more than left wing spin, and ranting on about honour and glory and sacrifice, I felt I had to respond in the only way I could - and I'm glad I did."

The play will be available at all good bookshops, online retailers, and at Sweet Dukebox during the run.

The Unknown Soldier has been named by Fringe Guru as his new all time number one Fringe Play.

The Unknown Soldier will be at Sweet Dukebox, (Venue 262), 30th May - 5th June, 17:45 [60mins]. Tickets: £10.00 / £8.50
