Birmingham Stage Company, celebrating their 20th anniversary, presents a new production by their Actor/Manager, Neal Foster, of Philippa Pearce's enchanting and truly timeless classic Tom's Midnight Garden at London's Bloomsbury Theatre. Press performances take place on Thurs Dec 13 at 1.30pm and Sat 15 Dec at 2.30pm. This special Christmas season runs until 19 January.
Tom's Midnight Garden is the award winning tale of a young boy who journeys through time when the grandfather clock in the hallway chimes thirteen times. Tom finds himself in a secret garden from the past where he meets Hatty and together these two new friends enjoy fantastic adventures in a magical wonderland.
'Tom' is one of five BSC productions happening in different parts of the UK this Christmas - the others being a new version of James & the Giant Peach now running at Birmingham's Old Rep Theatre then touring in 2013. Also a co-production of Charlotte's Web with Derby Theatre, playing at that venue 7 Dec – 12 Jan and George's Marvellous Medicine at The Corn Exchange, Cambridge 13 Dec – 3 Jan. Plus BSC's very successful Horrible Histories shows continue their runs in London's West End and on tour.
Three of these five shows are adapted for the stage by UK's top children's playwright, David Wood, who recently won a best musical award for his version of 'The Go-Between'. All of these classic shows are a great Christmas alternative to panto providing high quality entertainment for all the family with lots of adventure, excitement and fun for children aged 5+.
