On Tuesday 27 June, Birmingham Royal Ballet present Ballet? What's That? at Parson Street Primary School. This special lecture-demonstration is a fun and friendly way to find out what ballet is all about.

Head teacher Jamie Barry had an extra special reason for inviting Birmingham Royal Ballet to present at Parson Street Primary School. As a young boy, he was involved in a boy's dance group developed by local dance advocate Vic Ecclestone and supported by Birmingham Royal Ballet. When he became a teacher, and later deputy head, at a school in Sutton Coldfield, Jamie invited Birmingham Royal Ballet into the school as he wanted his pupils to have the same opportunity to dance as he enjoyed. Now his relationship with the ballet company has come full circle, as Jamie has returned to Bristol as the head teacher at Parson Street, passionate about dance and excited that Birmingham Royal Ballet are coming to visit the school.

The event will feature: a dance demonstration by Birmingham Royal Ballet dancers Delia Mathews and BranDon Lawrence, live piano music, a fun interactive workshop for the audience, an exhibition of the company's beautiful costumes and information about how to get involved with ballet.

Ballet? What's That? offers an exclusive insight into life behind the scenes at the ballet and is a wonderful introduction to this most beautiful art form. What's more, the whole experience is completely free of charge.
