Birmingham Based Elmhurst Ballet School Celebrates A Level And GCSE Results Success Image

Today, Elmhurst Ballet School, the associate school of Birmingham Royal Ballet is jumping for joy as it reflects on one of its best ever A Level results and celebrates further success with its General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) results for 2018.

A week ago, sixth form students and staff at the school celebrated a 100% pass rate for its A Level results. 85% of students achieved grades A*- C and 45% gained top A* - A grades.

Jessica Wheeler, Principal of Elmhurst Ballet School, said: "We are delighted for our students who achieved such outstanding A Level results. These are the highest set of results that the Sixth Form students have attained at Elmhurst in recent years. Our philosophy at the school is that thinking dancers make better dancers so this incredible accomplishment bodes well for the students' futures as they progress into their Graduate Performance Year and beyond."

A Level studies not only complement and enrich Elmhurst's vocational training but, in the event of a career cut short by injury or a change of aspiration, they constitute a reliable insurance policy.

Announced today, and highlighting that the Edgbaston based Elmhurst continues to grow from strength to strength, is the school's GSCE results. Students move from Lower School to Upper School with the following GCSE success in 2018: 90% achieved five Grades 9 - 4 including English & Mathematics (equivalent to A** - C in the former grading system).

Jessica Wheeler continued: "We are very proud of this level of outstanding performance and these results are testament to the hard work of our students and the staff that have supported them so diligently throughout their academic studies, particularly over the last two years."

Most Year 10 & 11 students take five full GCSE courses in the core subjects: English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Science and Dance. Three further subjects are selected from Art, Music, Geography, History, French, Italian, Drama and Religious Studies.

Academic tuition at Elmhurst is delivered by an experienced staff of well-qualified, specialist teachers. This aspect of the school's work is just as important as the vocational training and students regularly achieve outstanding success in public examinations at GCSE and A Level. Form Tutors monitor the progress and welfare of each student, and pastoral care is provided through an extensive network of academic, residential and vocational staff. Internal academic assessment takes place throughout the year and parents receive regular written reports and attend an annual parent-teacher evenings for each year group.
