Big Broad Productions Limited presents The Speed Twins by Maureen Chadwick, directed by Simon Evans, with designer Andrew D Edwards, lighting designer Johanna Tow and sound designer Ed Lewis. The cast features Amanda Boxer, Polly Hemingway and Mia Mackie.
Simon Evans directs the world premiere of this exciting new play by Maureen Chadwick, creator and writer of award-winning dramas Bad Girls, Footballers' Wives and Waterloo Road. The Speed Twins, which runs for five weeks at Riverside Studios 3 from Thursday 29 August - Saturday 28 September, is an exhilarating, intriguing and moving story about a long lost love between two women. Press night is Tuesday 3 September at 7.45pm.
Respectable widow Queenie is astonished and appalled when she finds herself trapped in a mysterious nightclub called "The Gateways" with two alarming companions and no way out. As the drink flows, uncomfortable truths are revealed and Queenie is forced to revisit that fateful motorbike crash she walked away from fifty years ago. Torn between temptation and fear, she struggles to justify her life's choices and clear her conscience. Will she go to her grave with her conventional moral certainties intact? Or will she have the courage to re-write history and finally be true to her heart?
The Speed Twins unleashes an explosive and darkly comic conflict of desires and challenges us all to ask fundamental questions about identity.
