YOUNG MEN is a brand new work from BalletBoyz which premieres at Sadler's Wells on January 14th and simultaneously opens Sadler's Wells' 2015 programme. YOUNG MEN is an intensely moving portrayal of love, friendship, loss and survival and explores the theme of war and the bonds that develop between the young men who are utterly consumed by it.

Produced by BalletBoyz artistic directors Michael Nunn and William Trevitt, YOUNG MEN is choreographed by rising star Iván Pérez (Nederlands Dans Theater I and II, Ballet Moscow, National Ballet of Cuba). The production features a newly-commissioned original score from cult singer songwriter Keaton Henson (albums 'Dear', 'Birthdays') which will be performed live onstage by a 12-strong band of musicians.

Drawing inspiration from images of conflict through the ages, and with particular reference to the experiences of soldiers during World War I, the production is a compelling hybrid of dance, theatre and screen performance.

Comments BalletBoyz co-artistic director William Trevitt: "The production will be simple in appearance with suggestions of settings and costumes that are indicative of war but without being too specific. As you can imagine we have been doing a lot of reading and watching around the subject of war, and in particular in this centenary year, thinking about the First World War. However the idea is to assimilate all of those images and sounds and then put them away and allow elements to force themselves to the surface as the production is created."
