International air hostess to the stars Pam Ann (aka Australian comedienne Caroline Reid) has been entertaining her guests with travel industry satire since 1996. In this interview she chats about Simon Burke, Xanax, and why the performing at the Edinburgh Fringe isn't enough to make a comedy career.
In her new show, YOU F'COFFEE, she guides the audience through the conundrums of air travel, skewering the quirks of some of the biggest international airlines.
“Expect to be hi-jacked!” she warned BWW when we asked about what to expect.
Thanks for taking time out to email us, Pam. I know it’s normally you doing the interviewing on THE PAM ANN SHOW over in Australia. Which celebrity did you most enjoy hosting on the show?
Actor, West End, Broadway star and kids' TV host Simon Burke was not only gorgeous, funny and adorable, he loved sending himself up. He had just flown in from London and came directly to the set of my TV show and we did this great sketch together.
Presumably you’ll be travelling first class from venue to venue on your world tour. As a trained air hostess, is it difficult for you to relax on a plane?
I relax on my long-haul flights with the help of a few Xanax and some red wine.
Your show ONE WORLD ALLIANCE at the 2007 Edinburgh Festival Fringe was a great success. What advice can you give comedians today hoping their careers will take off at the festival?
I wouldn’t rely on any festival to make you a success or launch a career. I personally prefer to work outside of festivals. My motto is passion plus talent plus perseverance equals success.
What sights will you be seeing on your days off while you’re in London and New York?
I don’t do sights - I lived in London for ten years and I live in New York City. The only sight I will see is my face in the mirror after a long night of partying.
Thanks again, Pam.
