Kent actors have the rare chance to audition for The Royal Shakespeare Company next month (February).
To accompany the touring production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, the RSC has partnered with The Marlowe Theatre to meet and audition professional actors from the county in Canterbury.
These general auditions, on Tuesday 9 February, are for established professional actors and are designed for the RSC to broaden their knowledge of those actors living and working in areas of the country they might not manage to visit on a regular basis. These auditions are not for specific productions, but give the RSC a chance to increase their awareness of actors' work in order to consider them for future projects. They are a vital and ongoing part of the RSC's work.
Anyone wishing to audition must be a full-time resident of Kent, working as a professional actor for at least seven years (this should not include credits as a child performer), and must not have had an audition with a member of the RSC casting department in the last three years.
Applications for this event should be sent to castingroadshow@rsc.org.uk and should include a brief covering statement of less than 150 words in the body of the email, a link to a Spotlight CV/other CV. Image files over 0.5MB should not be sent, and the applicant's name and location should be in the subject line.
The deadline for applications is Friday 22 January.
These auditions will be run in the same way as other auditions at the RSC: they will last about 15 minutes in order to provide a quality of experience for the actor and the panel; actors will be given a specific appointment time; they will be asked to prepare a classical monologue of no more than two minutes long.
The panel will comprise members of the RSC casting department and where possible, other invited directors and employers from Kent.
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM is at The Marlowe Theatre from Tuesday 19 to Saturday 23 April. For full details, call the Box Office on 01227 787787, or go to marlowetheatre.com.
