Following the recent sell out run of 20 Tiny Plays About Sheffield, four brand new short stories celebrating Northern cities take to the Studio stage from tonight 23 May - Saturday 1 June.
Inspired by the North of England's spirit of community and co-operation; writers, artists, theatre makers and actors have come together to create four unique and surprising stories challenging the 'it's grim up North' clichés and exploring fresh and vibrant perspectives on Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle and what they share.
Porters Brook by Matt Hartley (Sixty Five Miles, Paines Plough, Hull Truck) looks at the spirit of Sheffield people.
Electricity by Sarah McDonald Hughes (Once In A House On Fire, Monkeywood Theatre, The Lowry) explores that Manchester can be as glamorous as New York and as romantic as Paris.
This One by Luke Barnes (Bottleneck, High Tide Festival, Soho Theatre) explores redemption and forgiveness within the midnight streets of Liverpool.
WhatSpaceBetween by Alison Carr (Can Cause Death, Forward Theatre Project, National Theatre, Northern Stage, Latitude Festival) examines an extraordinary encounter with Gateshead's Dunston Rocket.
Director Chris Meads brings these stories together in a fascinating new production led by a young and dynamic cast with an emotional affinity for each of the four cities: Kathryn Beaumont, Josh Hayes, Sally Hodgkiss and Adam Search.
A Wondrous Place is brought to the stage by Northern Spirit, in association with Sheffield Theatres, Northern Stage, the Unity Theatre, New Writing North and the Royal Exchange Theatre.
The show is inspired by an online archive that has been guest curated by award-winning bloggers who are inspired by Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle. For more information visit northernspirit.org.uk.
