Norfolk & Norwich Festival today unveiled highlights of its plans for 2012.

One of the headline acts this year will be Norfolk itself, continuing the trend of recent years that has put local people at the heart of the Festival. 100% Norfolk is a show about the population of Norfolk, starring the population of Norfolk, and is the UK premiere of a show created by the German experimental theatre company Rimini Protokoll. Its cast of 100 ordinary people will headline next year's bill alongside, modern day French circus phenomena Compagnie XY and Spira mirabilis who are redefining how orchestras perform and audiences experience classical music. For children, Erth's Dinosaur Petting Zoo will be touring school playgrounds and outdoor spaces throughout the Festival, giving Norfolk children their first chance in a million years to find out what it's like to feed a dwarf allosaurus.

The highlight shows announced today give a flavour of what Norfolk & Norwich Festival organisers are promising will be their most ambitious year yet.

In addition to the Norfolk & Norwich Festival in May, two landmark events are being programmed as part of the London 2012 Festival. How Like An Angel will bring together contemporary circus and vocal ensemble in a unique performance created especially for cathedrals. It will hold its premiere in Norwich Cathedral before embarking on a tour of UK cathedrals. Robert Wilson's Walking is an ambitious participatory art installation set against the backdrop of North Norfolk's vast and stunning coastal skies in late August.

"We are already immensely proud of the line up for next year and this is just the tip of the iceberg," said Artistic Director, William Gallinsky. "I want 2012 to be the year when more people than ever discover Norfolk & Norwich Festival - whether that means visitors travelling to Norfolk to catch a rare glimpse of Compagnie XY's exquisite acrobatics, ordinary people taking leading roles in internationally acclaimed theatre or children experiencing the thrill of meeting a 'real life' dinosaur in their own playground."

Norfolk & Norwich Festival 2012 will run from 11 – 26 May. The full programme will be unveiled in late February 2012.
