Tulsa Youth Opera goes “there and back again” in this delightful adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy epic. Bilbo Baggins lives a peaceful, comfortable life until the Wizard Gandalf and a troupe of rowdy Dwarves invade his home and enlist him to join their quest to reclaim their home and treasure. Dean Burry’s tuneful score, composed for child performers and audiences, Elron, the Elf King, asks Bilbo to create a musical drama about his adventures, is a rollicking adventure complete with an epic journey, a magical Ring, and of course, the fire-breathing Dragon, Smaug! Artistic Director Aaron Beck leads the orchestra. Sung in English with supertitles, accompanied by orchestra. 85 minutes, no intermission.
