Theatre Tulsa is continuing its Broadway Series of popular musicals with the story of The Greatest Showman, "Barnum The Musical."
"Barnum The Musical" -- featuring a book by Mark Bramble, lyrics by Michael Stewart, and music by Cy Coleman -- is based on the life of showman P. T. Barnum, covering the period in the mid-1800s when Barnum was at finding success with his performing companies. In its first year on Broadway, "Barnum" was nominated for 10 Tony Awards, ultimately winning three.
The character P.T. Barnum has also had a resurgence over the past year, mainly due to the recent movie musical "The Greatest Showman," starring Hugh Jackman.
"'Barnum' is an amazing American success story, one that still resonates today. Even in today's information age full of fact checking, there's still a sucker born every minute," said Jarrod Kopp, Executive Director of Theatre Tulsa.
The company is also collaborating with the Calliope Youth Circus to include a full range of acrobatic and circus stunts within the production.
.
"'Barnum' provides a wonderful challenge for Theatre Tulsa, because it uses so much circus-style spectacle and stunts, " said Kopp. "Our work with Calliope adds an extra 'wow' factor that you won't see in any other show this season."
The cast stars Scott Black as P.T. Barnum and Margaret Stall as Charity Barnum. Other featured actors include: Fletcher Gross as the Ringmaster, Lydia Gray as Jenny Lind, LaKeysta Tipton-Goree and Joice Heth and Dustin Harmon as Tom Thumb.
The ensemble features: Anton Von Ostendorf, Brooke Lambie, Conor Yob, David Ballard, Jericho Dillard Ashes, Kaci Coldren, Kristen Simpson, Kymber Sage, Marissa Hess, Nash McQuarters, Nicole Gray, Sarah Kobos, Steven Lambie, Tessa Hill and Troy Cope.
Members of the Calliope Youth Ensemble include: Abigail Alderman, Annalise Stiles, Isaiah Lyons, Kod'di Lyons, Lyric Lyons, Maria Tate Reed, Vivian Alderman, Zac Lyons
The production is directed and choreographed by Pete Brennan.
