Theatre Tulsa will extend the run of its hit production of Disney's "Newsies" for a fourth weekend, Aug. 31 - Sept. 2.

The locally-produced production of "Newsies," the first in Oklahoma by a local theatre, was originally scheduled for a three week run, but the show has received overwhelming support from Tulsa, said Jarrod Kopp, Executive Director at Theatre Tulsa.

"It was obvious from the show's opening three weeks ago that we had a wonderful show for Tulsa, but the adoring response from audiences throughout the run made it obvious that we had to extend it for one more weekend. We want to give Tulsans every opportunity to see this inspiring show."

The additional performances will take place at 8 p.m. Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, with a final performance at 2 p.m. Sept. 2.

Tickets went on sale through the Tulsa Performing Arts Center box office on Monday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m.

"Newsies" is a musical based on the 1992 Disney film, which was inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City. The show features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a book by Harvey Fierstein. "Newsies" made its Broadway debut in 2012, where it played for more than 1,000 performances. After closing on Broadway, the show toured throughout North America until 2016.

"Newsies" now runs through Sept. 2 in the John H. Williams Theatre of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.
