Ray Scott, a young insurance salesman from Montgomery, Alabama had a vision that came to him after a rough and rainy day of fishing in March of 1967. Ray’s vision was to turn recreational bass fishing into a professional tournament circuit that could rival popular sports such as basketball and golf. Convinced he was onto something big, Ray set about organizing the inaugural tournament on Beaver Lake, Arkansas the following June. With little help from friends, family or business associates, he pulled it off only to lose six hundred dollars in the process.

Undeterred, Ray forged ahead nearly bankrupting his family but slowly recruiting a small band of “believers” who would become the core of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society – an organization that today numbers over a half million dues-paying members. This is a story of the early days – the trials, the tribulations, the naysayers who tried to block his path, and the believers who helped make his dream come true.
