International opera star Hibla Gerzmava, who most recently triumphed at La Scala as Anna Bolena, makes her Canadian debut! Gerzmava has riveted audiences at the Metropolitan Opera, The Bolshoi and the world’s other great opera houses with her “ethereal high notes” and “crystal-clear coloratura voice” (Moscow Times). She joins the famed Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra (“a dramatically unified ensemble with a sound that would put many full orchestras to shame” – Washington Post) and its revered conductor and violinist, Vladimir Spivakov, in French and Neapolitan songs, and arias from Norma (Bellini), I Masnadieri (Verdi) and Adriana Lecouvreur (Cilea). The orchestra also plays works by Mozart, Shostakovich, Gulda and Grieg; along with Bruch’s deeply stirring Kol Nidrei and David Popper’s virtuosic Concert Polonaise, with 14-year-old Israeli cello prodigy Danielle Akta as soloist, also in her Canadian debut.
Ages: Mainly adults; also younger people who enjoy operatic singing and classical concerts.
