No Strings Theatre, in collaboration with the Church of St. Peter and St. Simon-the-Apostle, proudly presents a concert performance of Amahl and the Night Visitors by Gian Carlo Menotti.
Originally commissioned by NBC, Amahl and the Night Visitors premiered in 1951 as the first opera ever composed specifically for television. Its groundbreaking debut captivated audiences across the United States, establishing the work as a beloved holiday tradition for decades. Inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s painting The Adoration of the Magi, Menotti’s timeless opera tells the story of Amahl, a young boy with a vivid imagination, and his transformative encounter with the Three Kings as they journey to visit the newborn Jesus.
Set against a timeless backdrop, this heartwarming one-act opera combines stunning melodies, moving performances, and universal themes of hope, generosity, and wonder. Amahl and the Night Visitors continues to delight audiences of all ages and remains a treasured piece of operatic history.
