Is validation a basic human need? In this age of Instagram?
A smash hit inspired by true events, Bakersfield Mist is the story of an unemployed, chainsmoking ex-bartender living in a run-down California trailer park, who believes the painting she bought in a thrift store for $3 is really an undiscovered masterpiece worth millions. When stuffy New York art expert Lionel Percy arrives to validate the work, the result is a fiery and often hilarious debate over class, truth, and validation.
Bakersfield Mist features Marie Carriere Gleason and Thomas Gough. It is directed by David Eden. All three are Toronto Fringe alumni. Set design for Bakersfield Mist is by Chandos Ross; lighting design is by Linas Kairys; and the fight director is Christopher Mott.
