imagineNATIVE's music showcase The Beat, co-presented by Revolutions Per Minute (RPM), returns for its thirteenth year on Saturday, October 21 at the Horseshoe Tavern. Hosted by Jarrett Martineau of RPM and CBC's Reclaimed, The Beat will feature live performances from Mob Bounce, Kayla Briët, Ziibiwan, and DJ Kookum, a screening of eight music videos, and the announcement of the 2017 Bull's Eye contest winner, who will receive a $10,000 cash reward to create a professionally recorded demo of one of their songs.
The third annual Digital Media Art+Cade, now a fan-favourite for imagineNATIVE festival-goers, is a free interactive hangout showcasing Digital Media Works such as Indigenous-made video games, web series, radio and audio works, digital apps and virtual reality experiences at the TIFF Bell Lightbox from October 19 - 21. Digital Media Works featured at the Digital Media Art+Cade will be The Cache, a digital photo essay from directors Bonnie Ammaaq and Michelline Ammaaq; Coyote's Crazy Smart Science Show, a game from director Loretta Todd and writers Elizabeth LaPensee, Kamala Todd, and Lucas Johnson; Impossible to Contain, a 360 video from director Zoe Hopkins; Purity & Decay, a game from directors/writers Meagan Byrne and Tara Miller and writer Rachel Gorman; TETEPISKAT, a digital photo essay from director Natasha Kanapé Fontaine; Thunderbird Strike, a game from director/producer Elizabeth LaPensee; What Brings Us Here, an Instagram essay by director/writer Katherena Vermette; and XINONA, a digital animation essay from director Walter Kaheró:ton Scott.
