YONGE-DUNDAS SQUARE (YDS) celebrates ten years as the heart of the city with a day packed with free live entertainment today, August 9, 2013.
The tenth anniversary party will have fun for the whole family starting with buskers such as Brant "FireGuy" Matthews, who will light up the square with fire juggling and fire breathing. A beer garden will open on the biggest patio in the city at 4pm with Toronto's self-described "Balkan-Klezmer-Gypsy-Party-Punk-Super-band" Lemon Bucket Orkestra roaming the space with their instruments as they fill the square - corner to corner - with their unique party style.
"In ten years YDS has not only physically changed the face of downtown Toronto, it has also become a community focal point that has produced literally hundreds of events." said Taylor Raths, the General Manager of Yonge-Dundas Square. "The Square has also hosted more than 1,500 promotions, media launches, community and cultural festivals attended by over 7 million people. Now it's time to celebrate these achievements!"
Celebrations will culminate later in the evening with an all-Canadian line-up, hosted by comedian Elvira Kurt, including performances by Juno Award winning R&B artist Divine Brown, dapper singer-songwriter Royal Wood and Canadian music legends SPIRIT OF THE WEST.
