It was on a CFX Yamaha concert grand that Yulianna Avdeeva won the 16th Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition last month in Warsaw. The 25-year old Russian pianist received the Gold Medal, a laurel wreath, and 30,000 Euros. In addition, Yulianna was awarded the Krystian Zimerman prize for best sonata (12,000 €).
In addition to Yulianna, the fourth prize winner, Evgeni Bozhanov from Bulgaria, was a crowd favourite with the expressive intensity he coaxed from the CFX, and two other finalists who received special diplomas also chose the Yamaha CFX grand: Bulgaria's Nikolay Khozyainov, and Hélène Tysman of France.
To hear the Yamaha CFX concert grand in Toronto, Olga Kern will give a solo recital on Tues. Nov. 16 at Koerner Hall.
