Young People's Theatre welcomes Green Thumb Theatre and their production of tagged by acclaimed Canadian playwright Dave Deveau. Peer pressure and online popularity take centre stage in this timely and important play about responsibility in social media. tagged will be presented in the Studio from April 21 to May 8.
Three young people are swept up in a social media maelstrom as a picture from a party goes viral. The photo, a passed-out girl's face with the word "slut" written on it in lipstick, prompts the characters to deal with issues of ownership, privacy and culpability. As an officer investigates Jerri and Webber about the online harassment of a fellow student, not all is as it appears to be. Do these teens actually understand the consequences of their actions? Do the police have a case for a criminal act? How responsible are we for the words we type and what they may lead others to do? tagged explores the potential for harm when actions on social media cascade into unanticipated outcomes.
Directed by Patrick McDonald. Featuring Scott Button, Kayla Deorkson and Lindsay Winch. Video and Set Designer: Craig Alfredson; Costume Designer: Connie Hosie.
