The story follows 16 year-old Pandora as she begins to navigate the world of dating. When an innocent online foray reveals the disturbing and surreal world of cyber-porn, it exacerbates her self-image issues and complicates her relationship with a boy she likes. Conflicted by what she sees, Pandora begins to realize the dangers of defining oneself through the prism of the internet and the importance of remaining plugged into the real world.
In 2008, Youtheatre commissioned Sarah Berthiaume, whose work The Flood Thereafter was recently seen at Canadian Stage, to develop a play that explored the world of cyber pornography and how it impacts young adults. Inspired by students she met in focus groups at various Montreal high schools, Sarah chose to tell the story from a young woman's perspective.
"In the interest of protecting young people from predators, we must instill our children with ownership of their feelings and their bodies. Youtheatre is a long-time partner of YPT, having created such topical teen works as The Other Side of the Closet with keen insight and sensitivity. We're thrilled to have their production of P@ndora on our stage." - YPT Artistic Director Allen MacInnis
