A thought-provoking, original social commentary, LIFE ASSIGNMENT is a fun ensemble piece that will leave you pondering the previously unponderable. Written by David Polera, and directed by Caleb Yong, our show is the perfect kick off to your summer theatre experience. Running from Thursday June 21st, 2018 to Sunday, June 24th, 2018 at the Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace.

In order to keep the economy moving, individuals are assigned different jobs, names, religions, and relationships. When a Life Commissioning Agent unexpectedly arrives one evening to re-assign a loving married couple, the couple refuses to separate regardless of punishment. The situation spins further out of control when another newly assigned couple arrives to take possession of the house. Secrets, passions, and ideologies collide against a bureaucratic authority.

Director Caleb Yong returns to the theatre after a short hiatus. (Co-creator and performer; Suck and Blow; Suck and Blow Collective, assisted director Michael Rubenfeld; Essay; Absit Omen Theatre, assisted director Jennifer Tarver; That Time - Five Beckett Shorts; Theatre Extasis).

LIFE ASSIGNMENT features a remarkable ensemble that includes Mercy Cherian (Hamlet, Ismene; Socratic Theatre), Emily Shelton (The Dragon Trilogy; Robert Lepage Tour), Tom Mifflin (Lord Chancellor; Medieval Times Toronto), Abbee Fernandes (The Book of Esther; Festival Players of Prince Edward County), Brian Webber (alongside Clive Owen as Rudy; in feature film Bent), and Vince Deiulis (award winning Blue Remembered Hills; Good Old Neon theatre).

Theatre Nid?na is a Toronto based theatre company. The word nid?na comes from Buddhist Scriptures. In these texts, each of the Buddha's teachings is preceded by a nid?na, a story about the particular context that motivated him to teach. Our goal is to remain in this space of the nid?na. Rather than teach, or sermonize, we tell stories to inspire a context or occasion for reflection, teaching, and learning.
