World Premier Adaptation OF THE WAVES Plays The Factory Theatre 6/30-7/11

What do you get when you combine movement, original music, six actors and the darkly haunting words of one of the world's most prolific novelists? One exciting night at the theatre. The Waves, by Virginia Woolf is adapted for the stage by Toronto's own writer/director/actor Brenley Charkow. This world-premier adaptation is set to take place at the Factory Theatre during the Toronto International Fringe Festival.

"I wanted to create a production that would invoke the imagination and provoke the mind. Woolf's beautifully dark novel was the perfect canvas for us to play in.", says Charkow, "Her story is equally as poignant today as it was when it was originally written." Charkow continues, "It's never an easy task to take the words from novel form, onto the stage, especially since Virigina Woolf wrote the novel with virtually no dialogue, but rather as a series of stream of conscious monolgues"

Set in England in the early 1900's, THE WAVES examines the lives of six friends from adolescence through to adulthood. Friendship, desire, jealousy, forbidden love, and loss are all themes that reign true throughout the story.

The Waves cast and creative consists of both Canadian Theatre veterans and some new emerging talents, including Shaw Festival veteran Andrew Bunker (Shaw Fest, CanStage, Buddies), with MARK CRAWFORD (TNB, CanStage, STC); AARON STERN (LKTYP, Theatre Calgary, DreamNorth); ASHLEIGH HENDRY(Modern Times, Stratford Conservatory); LANA SUGARMAN (Classical Theatre Projects, SilverMist); and JILLIAN HARRIS (Queen's U.).
