MURDER strikes at The Citadel Theatre! Rebecca Northan (creator of Dora Award-winning, international sensation Blind Date) and her partners in improvisational crime return to the Citadel to recruit one intrepid audience member for an undercover ride into the criminal mind. When everyone's a suspect, will a rookie detective be able to discern the clues from the red herrings, point the finger at the perpetrator, and see that justice is served?

Rebecca Northan is an actor, director, playwright, and improvisor. She previously appeared at the Citadel Theatre in the smash hit Blind Date, as Mimi, a French clown looking for love, who goes on a date with a different audience member every night, as well as the World Premiere of Make Mine Love.

"It has always been my dream to entice non-theatre-goers into the theatre. Magic happens once we get them through the door," says Northan. "This is why my work appears to have a 'gimmick' attached to it: When a member of the audience is cast in the lead role, anything can happen! The result, however, is surprising and profound. What initially attracts with the promise of laughs and a voyeuristic good time, subtly unfolds, inviting a deeply empathetic leaning in."

Undercover (A Spontaneous Theatre Creation) was developed in conjunction with, and premiered at, Tarragon Theatre in Toronto and Vertigo Theatre in Calgary. Directed by Rebecca Northan, with Set and Lighting Design by Glenn Davidson, Costume Design by Brandon Kleiman, and Sound Design by Mike Rinaldi, Undercover features a cast of six performers, in addition to the recruited audience member. The performers will mingle with patrons in the lobby prior to the show's start in order to get a sense of which audience members are eager to volunteer. And, the cast works hard to ensure their new stage partner feels like a star!

"When we celebrate and support the non-performer by surrounding them with a highly structured narrative experience sturdy enough to sustain their spontaneous input, we demonstrate in real time the joy of play, the gift of adaptability, the wonder of surprise, and most importantly, the birth of community," says Northan. "For the duration, whatever that person does is "right," and the entire cast will shift the play around them in order to conspire in their greatness."

Undercover runs April 4-29, 2018, in The Club at the Citadel Theatre.

Tickets are available at www.citadeltheatre.com and 780.425.1820. Tickets start at just $30 plus fees and GST
