The Last Five Years is a captivating two-person show that offers an honest look into one couple's five-year relationship. It's a funny, endearing, and intimate telling of a journey from passionate beginning to painful ending. An age-old story told in a refreshing way, the audience follows the couple's milestones in reverse chronological order - Cathy starts out experiencing the end of the relationship, while Jamie blissfully revels in its beginning. Watch the emotional progression as Cathy moves back in time toward their first date, and Jamie moves forward toward their eventual parting.

TheatreHN began when producer Armand Antony pulled together a team of local artists with a shared passion for musical theatre. Several members of TheatreHN met and worked together during Toronto's InspiraTO ten-minute play festival before taking on The Last Five Years. Toronto indie theatre audiences might recognize some of the creative team from recent indie theatre projects. Musical Director Carl Jackson recently directed Theatre UnBlocked's critically acclaimed production ofProof, as well as performing and directing at 2017's InspiraTO festival. Director Nastazja Palonka reprised her role as Stage Manager in Christel Bartelse's popular Fringe show, All KIDding Aside, in Edinburgh (previously staged in Toronto and Hamilton), and has also recently directed at the InspiraTO festival.

A Drama Desk Award winner, The Last Five Years is written and composed by the Tony Award winning Jason Robert Brown. Because the show is a "two-hander", it is possible (and fairly common) to stage it in a very "stripped down" and bare bones fashion, using just a piano to provide the musical backing. While this approach does justice to the material, TheatreHN has decided to go bigger than a single instrument. This production will feature a full band, the way the score was originally written, with a violin, bass, guitar, and two cellos accompanying the piano. The lush, warm sound of the strings and the funky percussiveness of the rhythm section allows the wide variety of musical styles in the show to really shine, and captures the imagination and emotions of the audience.

This is a show that every theatre lover should see live at least once. Let TheatreHN capture your hearts, and break them, with their hauntingly beautiful production of the popular musical The Last Five Years.
